    Description

Up for sale is a 1941 High School Table Tennis Trophy. The trophy topper is the figure of a male table tennis player ready to hit the ping pong ball.
The topper measures approximately 4.5 inches high and is made of heavy metal . . . mostly likely bronze . . . then brass plated. It has a white, round-tiered, plastic/Bakelite base that stands about 4 inches tall and has a diameter of 3 inches. The brass ring around the upper section of the base is engraved "HIGH SCHOOL SERIES '41 - MALCOLM KRESKE".
Born in Cleveland, Mr. Kreske graduated from high school in Columbus and earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from The Ohio State University, where he won table tennis tournaments. He received his MBA from Miami University.
Often these old trophies have the maker's name on the inside of the base but I can find none.
The condition is fair to good with age appropriate wear to the brass plated figure and brass ring (see photos) with some heavy tarnishing on the ring. The figure has no chips or cracks. The Bakelite base is in excellent condition with no cracks but certainly needs cleaning.
A nice item for a Table Tennis memorabilia collection or vintage sports room decor. You also might have known Malcolm Kreske. He later worked for the Department of Defense and he ushered at the Cleveland Play House after retirement. During World War II, he was a U.S. Navy beach jumper in the Pacific theater. He received a Purple Heart.
