Description

This is a highly unusual and seemingly rare Mexican sterling silver hinged bangle bracelet.  Oddly, it is unsigned but almost identical to a bracelet produced by MCM Master Mexican silversmith Gonzalo Moreno.  I could find only two listings past or present, one on 1st Dibs and one on Ruby Lane (could be the same one since the pictures are so alike).  When I say almost identical, it is because my bracelet has three tribal masks down the middle while the others have three cabachons .  Also , the safety chain on my bracelet is not as hefty.  The stones are green agate (jade color) .  Why it is not signed is a mystery.  Moreno was very well known for his modernist hollow ware but he did occasionally produce jewelry.  He even produced some pieces for Cartier.  The bracelet in this auction is 1" wide (four rows of 5mm beads).   The inside diameter is 2" and the inside circumference is  7 1/2".  The width at the three masks is 1 1/2".  In addition, there are 16  5mm green agate cabachons  in 4 rows on either side of the masks.  One caveat which I want to mention is that you may need a helping hand or some practice to slide the slide in  clasp into it's groove.  Once that is accomplished, the clasp is very sturdy and then you just press the middle mask to open the bracelet.  I spot two small dents in two balls but with all the reflections you would be hard pressed to find these with the naked eye.  In my opinion, this is a sleeper and a very rare and unusual bracelet.   Total weight, stones and all, is 54 grams.
