For your consideration is a unique sterling silver with woven brass cuff bracelet made in the city known for its fine sterling silver and gold products, Taxco, Mexico.
The inside of the bracelet is marked with the city mark for Taxco (‘T’), along with ‘MEXICO’ and the sterling silver mark of ‘925’.
This is a great piece and is much more unusual than the typical cuff bracelet.
Taxco is a small city in the Mexican state of Guerrero.
The city is heavily associated with silver, both with the mining of it and other metals and for the crafting of it into jewelry, silverware and other items. Today, mining is no longer a mainstay of the city's economy. The city's reputation for silverwork, along with its picturesque homes and surrounding landscapes, have made tourism the main economic activity.
Silversmithing was reinvigorated in Taxco by American
William Spratling
, who moved to the town in the 1920s, creating silver design workshops and exporting items, mostly to the United States.
